The George Bass Coastal walk is an epic, moderate grade (achievable for the vast majority of people!) 16km circuit will take us from Kilcunda to San Remo through the Punchbowl Coastal Reserve and back to our starting position past brutal cliffs and secluded beaches along Bass Strait.
Start point: Kilcunda Foreshore Reserve Playground Carpark. We will then continue 8km to San Remo punchbowl before another 8km back to our starting position.
Equipment: A small backpack with 1.5-2L water, sun protection and a windbreaker/jacket is a good idea as winds on this coastline can be more significant than expected! We aim for these to be low cost and for people not to feel like they need to deck themselves out in hundreds of dollars of gear. A good pair of runners is necessary or even better a pair of hiking shoes or boots. The main benefit of hiking shoes will be some waterproofing, and sturdier soles for better balance and support. Hiking poles are optional and are good for adding balance and taking some load off the legs (we can teach you how to use these properly if never used before!)
Further activities: Once back at the car there is lots to do in this area to make a day or weekend of the trip! 30minutes away is Phillip Island and the renowned Fairy Penguin Parade at sunset for their egg laying and incubation season (for times check online but roughly 6.15 in September- arrive one hour before). Otherwise, a drive in the opposite direction further past Kilcunda to popular holiday spots Inverloch and Venus bay (and the amazing beach along the way).
